Ceasefire e-Petition highlights vast support for human rights in Palestine: CJPME
Montreal, December 1, 2023 — Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) welcomes today’s historic introduction of official parliamentary petition e-4649, which calls for a ceasefire in Gaza and was sponsored by MP Alexandre Boulerice. With 286,700 signatures, it is the most popular e-petition in the history of Parliament. CJPME welcomes this petition as a symbol of Canadians’ unprecedented support for Palestinian rights and an end to Israel’s war. CJPME urges Prime Minister Trudeau to respect the overwhelming calls for a ceasefire, and ensure that the temporary truce between Israel and Hamas does not revert to a resumption of bloodshed.Continue readingCJPME Statement on Int'l Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People
Montreal, November 29, 2023 — On this International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, we wish that we could be optimistic about the prospects for justice, peace, and a negotiated end to the occupation of Palestine. Instead, we find ourselves trying to find shards of hope in the midst of an attempted genocide by Israel in the occupied Gaza Strip and a failure of Canadian leadership at home.Continue reading -

Annexing Palestine Through Trade: CIFTA and the Occupied Palestinian Territories
This report evaluates the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA) and its relationship to the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT). The report demonstrates that CIFTA treats the OPT as if it was already formally annexed by Israel, that Palestinians were never a partner or signatory to the agreement, and that Palestinians do not really benefit economically from it. The report concludes with recommendations for how Canada can support trade with Palestine without reinforcing Israel’s occupation and apartheid. At the end, several recommendations for the Canadian government to take to protect the rights of Palestinian Children are provided. Please support Principal Rich Ward, suspended for calling out Israeli genocide
On Nov. 13, Rich Ward, principal of Tribune Drive Public School in Brampton was suspended from his job while the Peel District School Board (PSDB) “investigates” a brief tweet he made the day before. In that tweet, Ward rightly suggests that Israel is committing a genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and that Israel’s violence was triggering anti-Zionist sentiment in Canada. The PDSB has clearly caved to vague criticisms about Ward’s post, while 1) seemingly unaware of expert concerns over Israel’s genocidal violence, and 2) contemptuous of Ward’s right to free expression.Continue readingDemand suspension of Ottawa educator for anti-Palestinian racism
In October, Lisa Levitan, an educator with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board made social media posts and statements to the media suggesting that either people support Israel – a country accused of practicing apartheid by Amnesty International – or they are supporters of terrorism. Ms. Levitan’s statements contribute to a climate of hostility and discrimination within the OCDSB, violating several provisions of the OCDSB’s human rights policies, including Violations of OCDSB Policies P.147.GOV (Human Rights) and P.125.SCO (School District Code of Conduct). Despite a letter of complaint signed by over 1000 Ottawa-area parents and organizations, the OCDSB has thus far failed to act substantively.Continue reading -
