Mr. MacIntyre’s talk will address Israel’s dreadful treatment of Gaza, and the day-to-day struggles and resilience of the people of Gaza. As Jerusalem correspondent for The Independent (UK) from 2004-2012, Mr. McIntyre visited Gaza many times, developing a deep appreciation and knowledge of the territory, its history, and its people. His book, Gaza: Preparing for Dawn, recounts his experiences, and aspires to a brighter day for Gaza and its aching people. At a time of unprecedented turmoil in the Middle East, CJPME is pleased to announce an ambitious seven-city Canadian lecture tour by veteran foreign correspondent and author Robert Fisk. Fisk’s lectures will be entitled “‘Goodbye, Mr Sykes! Adieu, M. Picot!’ How the ISIS ‘caliphate’ frightens the Middle East – and us.” Join us, as Fisk talks about how the Syrian civil war – especially the rise of the so-called “Islamic State” – has destabilized the existing order in the Middle East. With its local partners, CJPME is delighted to host Israeli author and journalist Gideon Levy for an eight-city tour, March 22 - 29, 2015. Levy — a journalist with Haaretz since 1982 — will talk about the Palestine-Israel conflict in light of the March 17 Israeli elections in his talk entitled: "Israeli Elections: What next for Israel-Palestine?" Levy is a strong critic of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians and a strong supporter of the boycott of Israel. Levy has also questioned the viability of the “two-state solution.” Each lecture will be followed by a Q&A period. This series of events is co-sponsored with several organizations across the country; please see the individual events for co-sponsoring organizations.
