CJPME Factsheet 115, published May, 2011: Canadian Tire is one of the oldest companies in Canada. Currently, Canadian Tire sells products from the Israeli company Keter Plastic that are manufactured in the Jewish-only colonies of Barkan and Oranit in the West Bank. By selling Keter Plastic products, Canadian Tire is encouraging and legitimizing Israel’s military occupation of Palestinian land, which violates several of the UN Norms on the responsibilities of transnational corporations.

By establishing offices in illegal Israeli colonies and selling homes therein, RE/MAX is encouraging and legitimizing the expansion of colonial infrastructure on occupied Palestinian territories.

MEC sells around 30 products made in Israel, including hydration packs manufactured by Israeli military contractor Source Vagabond Systems. As an Israeli military contractor, Vagabond supplies hydration systems to the Israeli Army, which enforces Israel’s occupation of the West Bank — an occupation that has been cited repeatedly for violations of international humanitarian law as outlined in the Fourth Geneva Convention.

By buying and selling wine from the Golan Heights, Canadian liquor commerce encourages and legitimizes Israel’s military occupation of the Golan.

Husband and wife Gerry Schwartz and Heather Reisman, who control 68% of the assets of the company, established the HESEG Foundation for Lone Soldiers in 2005 to encourage foreign soldiers to join the Israeli army and continue their studies in Israel. By supporting and rewarding the « Lone Soldiers », Reisman and Schwartz by means of Indigo Books and Music Inc., indirectly support Israel military efforts in the occupation of the Palestinian territories.
