CJPME Factsheet 201, published November 12, 2018: This factsheet explores the orgins of Wahhabism in the Arabian Penninsula and how it rose to political prominence in Saudi Arabia.  The factsheet also explores how the state of Saudi Arabia promotes Wahhabi ideology, and how Wahhabism influences extremist movements around the world. 

CJPME Factsheet, published Feb 01, 2018: This factsheet defines Islamophobia and explains how it manifested itself in Canadian society. It addresses the employment discrimination and integration barriers Muslim Canadians face today. Lastly, it covers the different efforts implemented by the Canadian government to impede its rise.

Montreal, Jan. 9, 2017 – Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) is proud to host writer and philosopher Professor Tariq Ramadan for a five city Canadian speaking tour visiting Calgary, Edmonton, London, Mississauga, and Toronto between Jan. 18^th and 21^st.  Prof. Ramadan will deliver a political talk entitled, Creating Thriving Societies in Troubling Times.  In the wake of current events in Europe and North America, CJPME considers Ramadan’s visit to be extremely timely and useful to the Canadian discourse on international peace, security and harmony.  Prof. Ramadan’s talk is intended to address the preoccupations of both the West and the Muslim world in the face of the shifting world alliances, East-West perceptions, international terrorism, ongoing conflicts, and massive refugee movements.

As the Harper era ended and Trudeau’s term began in late 2015, a collective sigh of relief could be heard from ethnic communities all across Canada, especially from Muslim Canadians. From opposing niqabs at citizenship ceremonies to setting up a hotline for individuals to report the “barbaric cultural practices” of their fellow Canadians - which would have undoubtedly targeted Muslims and those believed to be Muslim - Steven Harper’s Conservative government proved to be highly intolerant of certain minority communities and certainly aided in the heightening of tensions against ethnic and religious groups in the country. 

CJPME Factsheet 162, published January, 2013: This factsheet was published after the release of an amateur Islamophobic video, Innocence of Muslims, in September, 2012 led to violent demonstrations throughout the Muslim world.  The factsheet analyzes the movie and the reactions to it, both internationally, and in Canada.  

CJPME Factsheet 145, published March, 2012: This factsheet looks at the Turkish government under Recep Erdogan, and the various forms it takes as it draws from both Islamic and Western traditions.  While Turkey’s history is unique, and Erdogan’s party and government have had their troubles and challenges, there is much to consider for other countries in the region.
