CJPME Appalled by Minister Joly’s Meeting with Far-Right Israeli Government
Montreal, March 18, 2023 — Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) is appalled by the decision of Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly to meet with her Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen this week. This was the first meeting between Minister Joly and Israel’s far-right government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, which has been in power since the end of 2022. CJPME identifies Cohen as a far-right extremist and annexationist, who has said that Palestinian citizens of Israel can “move to Gaza on a one-way ticket.” According to the readout of the meeting, Minister Joly expressed concerns about violence against Israelis but did not confront Israel on its escalation of violence and oppression against Palestinians. CJPME reiterates its call for Canada to send a strong message in support of human rights and international law by imposing a diplomatic boycott on Israel’s far-right regime.Continue readingCJPME: Minister Joly Must Sanction Israeli Officials for Illegal Settlement Expansion and Annexation
Montreal, March 9, 2023 — Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) has sent a letter to Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly urging the imposition of sanctions against Israeli officials in response to their attempted annexation of the occupied West Bank. In recent weeks, Israel has intensified its illegal colonization of the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT), dramatically expanding illegal settlements and moving to restructure its governance over the West Bank in a way that experts say amounts to de jure annexation. CJPME argues that these Israeli actions have crossed a red line, and urges Canada to impose sanctions on the Israeli officials who are responsible, including Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Minister Smotrich.Continue reading -

IHRA's True Intentions: This is the Speech About Israel and Palestine That IHRA Wants to Silence
This 14-page report demonstrates how the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism is used to silence critical political expression of Israel. Proponents of the IHRA definition of antisemitism claim that it does not silence free speech on Palestine. In practice, however, IHRA is used to target those who express their solidarity with Palestinians and risks being used daily against those who challenge Israel's treatment of Palestinians. Access the full report here.Continue readingDelegation to Palestine, October - November 2022
This 20-page report provides stark observations on the grave situation in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT). The report is authored by CJPME’s VP, Michael Bueckert, who returned on Nov. 11, 2022, from a two-week trip to the OPT and Palestinian communities within Israel. Bottom line: the brutal status quo in Palestine-Israel is untenable; Canada’s position is totally out of touch with reality; and Palestinians on both sides of the Green Line desire equality and an end to Israeli apartheid. Guelph CSA must block approval of pro-apartheid group
The Guelph CSA bylaws commit the organization to building a student community "free from all forms of oppression." Nevertheless, the CSA is poised to accredit a group called, "Guelph Students Supporting Israel." This is highly problematic, as Amnesty International says that Israel practices apartheid against Palestinians. Members of the Guelph Palestinian Students Association (GPSA) and their families have been directly impacted by Israel's apartheid system, and believe that if the CSA accredits a campus organization committed to "supporting Israel," it enables new forms of oppression on campus.Continue readingTell Trudeau: Boycott Israel’s Extremist Government
Israel has just ushered in the most far-right government in its history. This new government and its extremist figures pose a real and immediate threat to the safety and security of Palestinians on both sides of the Green Line. And yet, we were outraged to see the Canadian government congratulate Israel’s new far-right regime, without any mention of its extremism or its alarming plans to illegally annex the occupied West Bank.Continue reading -
