Like many, CJPME was horrified to watch Israel bombard Lebanon this past week, while it continues its genocide in Gaza and its brutal oppression in the West Bank. Many organizations are responding with protests and actions, and we invite you to join events (see below) going on in your area.
If you are organizing an upcoming event or demonstration, please consider submitting it on our events submission form so we can include it in future email announcements. Also consider participating in the urgent campaigns that we highlight below.
Heart-broken, again, over Israel's ongoing carnage
Israel’s move from committing genocide to “regional war” was anticipated by many, including CJPME, as we warned in successive statements over the past two weeks.
In Lebanon
In the past week, around one million Lebanese have fled their homes, with the United Nations reporting that 90 percent were uprooted in just the last week. Nearly 2,000 people have been killed in Lebanon since the start of Israeli attacks over the past year, with most casualties occurring in the last two weeks. Concerns about medical supplies for the wounded are growing, with the World Health Organization reporting that at least 28 healthcare workers were killed in Lebanon in the last 2 days.
In Palestine
In the last 24 hours, nearly 100 more Palestinians were killed in ongoing Israeli genocide, bringing the total death toll since October 7 2023 to 41,788.
Emergency Debate: Crisis in Lebanon
Earlier this week, an emergency debate took place in Parliament on Israel’s attacks on Lebanon. NDP MP Heather McPherson urged Canada to call on Israel to stop, impose an arms embargo, and sanction Netanyahu’s extremist government. MP Lindsay Mathyssen also spoke out, criticizing the Canadian government for lacking the courage to stand up for Lebanese Canadians and hold Israel accountable for its war crimes. See clips of their inspiring speeches in our Instagram reels, or our Facebook page.
Please participate in our urgent campaigns
As we approach the one-year mark of Israel's genocidal campaign in Gaza and watch a brutal and inhumane attack on Lebanon, please consider participating in some of the urgent campaigns cited directly below, or participate in protests listed further below:
Stop Israel's War Machine!
Earlier this week, CJPME launched a campaign asking Canada to stop Israel’s “war machine” and end the sale of Canadian military goods and technology to Israel. Canada is turning a blind eye to Israel’s crimes, which are leading to an escalation to a full-scale regional war. Click here to add your voice!
Reunite Palestinian-Canadians with their Families stuck in Gaza and Egypt!
Last week, CJPME launched a campaign highlighting how Ministers Joly and Miller have failed to ensure that Canadians reunite with their families trapped in Gaza. Minister Joly must take urgent diplomatic steps to pressure Israel to open border crossings, while Minister Miller must end the discriminatory screening process for Palestinians. Click here to send them an email to let them know we want them to reunite families!
Stop Trudeau's clamp down on the Pro-Palestinian Movement
Prime Minister Trudeau and his Special Envoy Debroah Lyons are about to release a new IHRA Handbook to clamp down on support for Palestine. This Handbook will guide police and prosecutors, among others, in how to further restrict and punish Pro-Palestinian activism in Canada. Please send a message to ensure we defend the rights of Palestinians to speak out against systemic racism perpetrated by the state of Israel!
Webinar: Organizing to Reunite Palestinians from Gaza with their Families in Canada.
This week, CJPME hosted a webinar on reuniting Palestinians from Gaza with their families in Canada. It highlighted Canada’s failing policies to reunite families and its anti-Palestinian racism, as well as key findings from CJPME's Gaza Visa report. Watch it on YouTube to learn more and find out how you can help push for change!
Demonstrations and events across Canada
Israel flagrantly violates international law, targeting Palestinian and Lebanese civilians with no consequences. Join thousands of Canadians across the country to protest Israel's relentless violence. Please note that many different organizations are hosting these events, and CJPME lists those it is aware of. Any questions should be directed towards the event organizers. If you have events you would like to have listed, please submit them on our events submission form.
