Monday night, Dec. 12, trustees for the Waterloo Region District School Board are expected to vote on adopting the controversial IHRA definition of antisemitism. Like many, CJPME opposes the IHRA definition because it falsely conflates criticism of Israel with antisemitism and IHRA’s supporters have used it to silence criticism of Israel’s human rights violations. If adopted, IHRA could make it harder for students and educators, especially Palestinian community members, to speak about Israel’s ongoing dispossession of Palestinians.
