Tell Montreal City Councillors: Cut Ties with Israel

Montreal City Council will soon be voting on an important motion to recognize the genocide in Gaza and sever institutional ties with Israel.

Moved by Projet Montréal, the motion recognizes the ongoing genocide in Gaza and calls on the City of Montreal to cut institutional ties with Israel until “it returns to its internationally recognized borders, ceases its violations of the rights of the Palestinian people, and ends its violations of international law.”

Since October 2023, Montrealers of all walks of life have requested that the city cut ties with Israeli institutions. Recently, during the Montreal Grand Prix Cyclistes, the Israel-Premier Tech cycling team was allowed to compete amidst the famine crisis in Gaza, which sparked outrage.

In the 80s, former Montreal Mayor Jean Doré cut all institutional ties with apartheid South Africa to reflect the demands of Montrealers and set Montreal as a pioneer city for the upholding of human rights. After more than two years of genocide and countless Montrealers calling on elected officials to sever ties with Israel, this motion is a concrete step in this direction

Join us in emailing Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada and City Councillors to tell them to vote “Yes” on the motion to cut all institutional ties with Israel. Montrealers do not want to be complicit in Israeli crimes!
