It is outrageous that Evan Solomon, Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence, recently met with the Israeli Ambassador to promote “dialogue” and engagement on AI and economic development.

It is well documented that the Israeli military uses Israeli AI and tech in the surveillance and targeting of Palestinians, using automation to develop kill lists and facilitate its genocide in Gaza. Israel’s 'world-leading' tech sector uses occupied Palestine as a laboratory to test out its new technology, which is taking increasingly repressive and murderous forms.

Minister Solomon’s “dialogue” with Israel on AI raises the alarm that Canada may be seeking to develop partnerships with Israeli tech and AI companies, at the same time as those companies continue to facilitate illegal occupation, apartheid, and genocide. This shows a complete lack of judgment and flies in the face of Canada’s commitment to human rights.
