The hunger crisis in Gaza has reached a breaking point. After months of Israel’s murderous siege and blockade of food supplies, an escalating number of people are now dying of starvation, including children. Meanwhile, Israeli soldiers repeatedly open fire on those who are desperately trying to access food, killing about 2,000 people in daily massacres at Israeli-run aid distribution sites. The UN-backed IPC has now officially confirmed famine in Gaza. This is a human catastrophe on an unthinkable scale, playing out in real time. And it is entirely the predictable result of Israel’s deliberate, genocidal policies.
Earlier this year, PM Carney finally threatened to sanction Israel over its attacks on Gaza, and he imposed sanctions on two far-right Israeli ministers for inciting violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. On July 21, Canada joined over 20 countries in condemning Israel’s attacks on Palestinians and warning that they "are prepared to take further action." However, Canada has failed to put these words into action and impose measures that can bring an end to Israel's forced starvation of two million people.
Sanctions are urgently needed to force Israel to end its genocidal actions in Gaza. Send an urgent message demanding that Prime Minister Carney and Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand follow through with sanctions on Israel.
