Below are political statements from the Canadian government, Members of Parliament, and some provincial politicians, in response to the escalation of violence in the Middle East in May 2021.
Note 1: This may not be a comprehensive list. Not included in this list are MPs who shared or retweeted statements from others, but who did not write their own. Where multiple statements exist, particular attention is paid to those which are critical of Israel, including the evictions in Sheikh Jarrah, the violent raids on Al Aqsa, and/or the airstrikes in Gaza. If you notice that a statement is missing here which you believe should be included, please send to [email protected]
Note 2: Not all statements are equal: while most of the below statements include direct or implied criticism of Israel's actions, there are some exceptions. For example, Conservative Party statements only criticize Hamas, while statements from the Green Party leader are particularly vague. On the other hand, there is a small group of MPs who have used terms such as apartheid and ethnic cleansing to describe Israel's actions, and a larger number of MPs and Senators (from all political parties) who have called for sanctions on Israel.

Erin O'Toole (Conservative Party leader)
Canada’s Conservatives strongly condemn the frightening campaign of rocket attacks by Hamas. These terrorist attacks are indiscriminately targeting civilians and have already taken innocent lives. They must end immediately. Read my full statement: pic.twitter.com/eCs0i08yrY

(1/2) 2000+ rockets have been fired at innocent civilians & the Trudeau government won’t confirm Israel’s right to defend itself. This is a failure of leadership. Terrorist groups Hamas & the Palestinian Islamic Jihad have fired more than 2000 missiles targeting Israeli civilians https://t.co/yuYs8ZA34R

(2/2) Dialogue and peaceful negotiation are the only path forward towards a settlement between Israelis and Palestinians and an eventual two-state solution.

MP @Yasmin_Ratansi met with @CanPalCoalition and heard the concerns of the Palestinian diaspora.

Yesterday, MP @Yasmin_Ratansi raised the issue of Israel's violence against Palestinians, & @hrw's report on Israel's crimes of apartheid. "Canada values human rights and we must fight for human rights for all, not a select few." 👏 #SaveSheikhJarrah pic.twitter.com/ka2SUhZrea

Today on Mother’s Day I’m thinking of those mothers in Jerusalem that have to tell their children why they r being forced out from their homes in #SheikhJarrah. This is unacceptable. The Forcible Transfer of occupied civilians population is strictly prohibited by 4th Geneva Con.

I'm not able to attend today's Palestine solidarity rally in Ottawa, but I offer this message of sincere thanks. We must keep speaking out and demanding justice until the occupation is ended and Palestine is free. #SaveSheikhJarrah #FreePalestinehttps://t.co/F8E5EUFAkM

Palestinians and Israelis have a right to live in peace, but lasting peace can't happen without justice. The siege of Gaza and illegal occupation must end. #FreePalestine pic.twitter.com/5gUXfcHRAN

The “peace” that relies on it is continued oppression
You need to right the wrong before you can have true peace - and you can’t “both sides” that
