Montreal, September 5, 2025 — Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) is urging Canada to intervene to protect Palestinian human rights groups following attacks by US President Trump. Yesterday, the US announced sanctions against three key Palestinian organizations, Al Haq, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, and Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), for their role in collecting evidence of Israeli war crimes and providing it to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Montreal, September 4, 2025 – Today on Parliament Hill, NDP Member of Parliament Jenny Kwan (Vancouver East) was joined by CJPME's Acting President Michael Bueckert and other civil society leaders to present her forthcoming Private Members Bill, nicknamed the “No More Loopholes Act.” The bill is designed to close critical gaps in Canada’s arms export system that have enabled Canadian-made military goods to contribute to violations of international law, including the Gaza genocide. While the full details of the bill are yet to come, it will close major loopholes that allow Canada to supply weapons to Israel via the United States. Montreal, September 2, 2025 — In response to the threat of Israel’s imminent annexation of the occupied West Bank, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) is urging the Canadian government to finally cancel the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA) and prohibit all trade with illegal Israeli settlements. CJPME reiterates that CIFTA violates international law by treating the occupied Palestinian territory (OPT) as if it were already annexed to Israel, and urges decisive action to prevent further colonial expansion. Montreal, August 11, 2025 — Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) strongly condemns Israel’s deliberate execution of Palestinian journalists and media staff, including prominent journalist Anas al-Sharif, who were killed last night in an attack on their media tent in Gaza City. CJPME is also deeply concerned that Israel’s justifications for the attack have been circulated by the National Post and many other Postmedia-owned newspapers across Canada.
