Israel says killing of Canadian aid worker was not a crime

Montreal, August 19, 2026  — On this World Humanitarian Day, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) is urging the Canadian government to hold Israel accountable for the killing of Canadian aid worker Jacob Flickinger in April 2024. Just today, the Israeli army announced that there will be no criminal investigation into the incident, in which a series of Israeli airstrikes deliberately targeted a humanitarian convoy in Gaza, killing 33-year-old Flickinger alongside 6 international and Palestinian volunteers with World Central Kitchen.

The Toll of Intent: Looking at the Genocidal Impact of Israel's Assault on Gaza

This report synthesizes existing data to project that between 14% and 20% of Gaza's pre-October 7, 2023, population (approximately 341,000–480,800 Palestinians) could ultimately be killed as a result of Israel's operations and the subsequent conditions by 2030 without urgent intervention from Canada and its allies. The report uses existing estimates and modelling to define various projections of Palestinian deaths for the different possible outcomes of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. The report concludes that the case that Israel has committed genocide is strong and supported by a growing body of scholarly and grey literature from the UN and NGOs..  Access the full report here.

Canada Must Ban Settler Extremist Arieh King

We have learned that Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Arieh King, an extremist Israeli settler and anti-Palestinian racist, has been invited to speak in Toronto on August 25. King is directly responsible for illegal efforts to dispossess Palestinians from their homes in occupied East Jerusalem, and replace them with settlers, which is a war crime. He is an open racist, wanting “maximum Jews to own maximum land” and who calls Palestinians “natural swindlers.” He was investigated by police and condemned by the European Union for inciting violence and terror against the UN aid agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA). In 2022, he attended a commemoration for Meir Kahane, an extremist Israeli politician who supported racial segregation and deporting Arabs, and who founded the Kach Party which is a designated terrorist entity in Canada. Moreover, the event is being hosted by Meir Weinstein, a self-described “loyal disciple” of Kahane who co-founded the Canadian chapter of the Jewish Defence League (JDL), a racist organization that has been described by the FBI as a "right-wing terrorist group" with a history of violence against Arabs, Palestinians, and others.  Palestinians in the occupied West Bank are currently facing a severe crisis of violence and terror at the hands of Israeli settlers and soldiers. Over the last two years, Canada has imposed sanctions against over 30 Israeli settler extremist individuals and entities for actions similar to King’s, and banned them from travelling to Canada. Canada must apply the same standards to King. Join us in calling on Minister of Public Safety Anandasangaree and Minister of Immigration Diab to deny entry to far-right Israeli settler extremist Arieh King.

Tell Minister Marc Miller: We Support the Nakba Exhibition

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights has just opened its long-awaited exhibit on the Nakba, titled Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present. The Museum has worked closely with the Palestinian Canadian community to develop this groundbreaking resource, while the broader Palestine movement has been tirelessly advocating for Nakba recognition in schools, cultural spaces, and in Parliament. The Nakba, or the Catastrophe, marks the forced expulsion, displacement, and ethnic cleansing of around 750,000 Palestinians from their ancestral homeland in 1948 during the creation of the state of Israel. For Palestinians, the Nakba never ended, as hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank continue to be displaced through Israel’s ethnic cleansing campaigns and ever-expanding settlements.  However, the Israeli lobby has been relentlessly attacking this exhibit in an attempt to silence Palestinian voices, and is exerting major pressure on Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture Mark Miller to have the exhibition cancelled. Miller initially declined to interfere with the Museum’s programming, but has recently made comments disparaging the exhibit, alleging that it has “errors” and “failures” that “must be rectified.” This is an alarming threat to the independence of the Museum and its ability to tell human rights stories without political interference, and gives fuel to the extremist voices who want to silence Palestinians. Join us in emailing Minister Miller to let him know that he is wrong to say that the Nakba exhibit has “errors” that must be “rectified.” We must demand that he stand by his initial support for museum independence and support its work in telling the stories of Palestinian Canadians.

Without evidence, Israel claimed the assault was a “pre-emptive” measure to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. In the first week alone, Israel’s strikes have killed hundreds of Iranian civilians.[1] Iran responded with ballistic missile attacks, triggering a series of escalating exchanges which could lead to a catastrophic regional war.
