For the 2018 holiday season, CJPME hopes to raise awareness of the plight of the Palestinians through its new holiday card campaign!
CJPME is always looking for creative ways to engage politicians on Palestinian human rights. That is why, beginning this October, CJPME will invite Canadians across the country to send one of the following three Palestine-themed holiday cards to their member of Parliament.
How will it work?
Canadians will be able to select their preferred card image online, type a customized message to their member of Parliament, and CJPME will assemble and send the card to Parliament Hill! The holiday cards are a simple way to spread some holiday cheer while opening a dialogue with your political representatives about the harsh realities facing Palestinians under occupation this holiday season.
If you’d like to order a large number of holiday cards for your own use, please give us a call at 438-380-5410 or send an email to [email protected].
About the design
The cards are a limited-edition custom design for CJPME by Brazilian political cartoonist Carlos Latuff. Latuff is knows for using his clever and colourful political cartoons to raise awareness about an array of issues, including Palestinian human rights, the Arab Spring and Western military intervention in the Middle East. More about Latuff and his cartoons can be found at: https://twitter.com/LatuffCartoons.
What is the situation in Palestine today?
Two of the three cards highlight Bethlehem for its Biblical role in Christmas and its contemporary struggles under Israeli military occupation. Many Canadians don’t realize it, but the birthplace of Christianity is actually in Bethlehem, Palestine, where many Palestinians still celebrate Christmas today. Unfortunately, millions of Palestinians in 2018 are suffering under a brutal Israeli military occupation, which is intensified by the presence of Israel’s illegal 8-metre-high Separation Wall throughout the West Bank. CJPME chose to include the Separation Wall in each of the card images since the Wall’s presence is so pervasive throughout the West Bank and obstructs the Palestinian economy as well as mobility and social interaction.
Despite the hardships of living under Israel’s military occupation, Palestinians have continued to demonstrate resilience in the face of oppression, and bold defiance in demanding their rights.
