See the photos: Canadians’ Emergency Aid to Gaza in May

This past May, when Israel started bombing Gaza, many of CJPME’s supporters contributed generously to the Gaza Emergency Aid Campaign. The campaign, launched by the CJPME Foundation, ultimately sent an AMAZING $62,000 to provide emergency food, medical kits, and medical supplies to help the Palestinians weather Israel’s assault! CJPME's Big Hairy Goals for 2021

In 2020, despite COVID, CJPME had some truly amazing accomplishments! And we want you to know that you – our supporters – share in our achievements, as everything we do depends on your support and participation! We’re pumped to make 2021 even a more impressive year, and wanted to share some of our plans with you. Below, we’ve listed our TEN BIG HAIRY GOALS for 2021. If you like what you see, please consider supporting our work financially. Monthly donations, even if a small amount, really help us to plan for the future. If you prefer to donate in person, feel free to give us a call at 438-380-5410, or print and mail us this form.   BIG HAIRY GOAL #1: Co-sponsor a trip to Palestine for 20 Canadian politicians. Although Coronavirus may still be a factor in 2021, we’re going to do our best to help get more Canadian Members of Parliament to Palestine. In 2018, almost 20 MPs went to Palestine, and came back with renewed vigor to speak up for Palestinian human rights. We’re already talking to allies in Parliament to see what can be done to help make it happen again – and soon!   BIG HAIRY GOAL #2: Re-invigorate the BDS movement in Canada; get Céline Dion to cancel her shows in Israel. Even if COVID-19 haunts the first part of 2021, we’ve got some amazing plans to re-energize the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement in Canada. We’re in touch with the BDS National Committee and other Canadian allies, and plan to launch some very accessible and exciting campaigns early in 2021. So stay tuned, and be ready to participate! And if Céline Dion keeps her concert date in Israel for next summer, she’s going to feel some real heat from us!   BIG HAIRY GOAL #3: Force a vote in Canada’s Parliament calling for Palestinian self-determination. Even though it sounds like a big hairy goal, asking Canada’s Parliament to pass a motion for Palestinian self-determination is simply asking MPs to vote for a policy that their parties, and the Canadian government, already support! Sure, the pro-Israel lobby won’t want us to try it, but it’s the logical, consistent, and ethical position to push for. Don’t be surprised if we ask you to contact your MP on this issue. CJPME's Accomplishments of 2020

2020 Updates and Accomplishments The work at CJPME is extremely hard. Short on staff, we often work evenings and weekends to get the job done. That’s how we’re able to accomplish so much! Here’s a sampling of the highlights from 2020: 68 Canadian MPs Sign CJPME’s Pledge to Oppose Israeli Annexation. When Israel announced plans to annex the Palestinian West Bank last spring, CJPME swung into action to mobilize a Canadian political response. Recruiting partners and endorsements, including the United Church of Canada, the Canadian Labour Congress, CUPE and dozens of others, CJPME appealed to politicians to sign a pledge to oppose Israel’s plan. In the end, almost 70 Canadian MPs from four different parties signed the pledge, which read (in part), “I call on the Canadian government to consider all reasonable diplomatic and economic options to stop annexation and prompt Israeli compliance with international law.” A big thanks to the over 8700 Canadians who sent an email calling their MPs to sign the pledge! Farewell from CJPME's Miranda Gallo

In a bittersweet moment for CJPME, we say farewell this week to Miranda Gallo, as she departs to earn a Master’s in International Law. Miranda started with CJPME as an intern in 2016, and then joined CJPME staff as Campaigns Coordinator in 2017. Miranda has done amazing work during her tenure at CJPME especially with her contribution to our campaigns, political advocacy and social media. Continue reading

Message from the CJPME President

Normally, at the end of each year, we send an email highlighting CJPME’s many accomplishments. Yet even though 2019 has been an amazing year for CJPME (see below), I need to start with a more sobering message: donations to CJPME are shrinking – NOT growing. Continue reading

3 Projects to Oppose Islamophobia in Canada

As-salamu ‘alaykum. Warmest wishes to our Muslim friends during this celebration of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Like us, you’ve probably realized that we’re living at a crisis in history – where politicians feel free to attack minority groups, especially Muslim-Canadians. As a human rights organization, we believe it’s especially important to protect the rights of Canadians of Middle East origin. So today, we’re asking for your help with three projects that enable us to protect the civil liberties of Muslims in Canada. CJPME depends on your generous support to be able to continue this type of advocacy work. If you are Muslim, would you consider supporting these projects for your zakat this Ramadan? A monthly donation makes a huge difference; but any amount helps. You can also call at 438-380-5410, or print and send the form here. Please see our key projects below and consider helping out! 2018 – Look at what we've accomplished together

"There's nothing like a challenge to bring out the best in man," said Sean Connery once.  We can't help but think of Connery's quote when we look at 2018, facing so many challenges from Trump's policies and our disappointing Canadian government.  But regardless, we continue fighting hard for human rights, both in the Middle East, and the related issues here in Canada.  Please take a look below and celebrate with us our accomplishments since January!
