Support Desmond Cole: “Free Palestine” is about human rights, NOT hate

Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign in support of journalist and anti-racism activist Desmond Cole! Cole has been under attack from pro-Israel groups after he raised the issue of Palestinian human rights recently during presentations on systemic racism to the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).  We have closed the email campaign after reaching our goal of 2,000 emails sent to the TDSB board. Stay tuned for upcoming developments and new ways to get involved and maintain the momentum! Stop Ethnic Cleansing in Jerusalem

Time is running out for Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan! In these two neighbourhoods in occupied East Jerusalem, Israel is attempting to forcibly evict 175 Palestinian families from the homes they’ve lived in for generations -- and replace them with Israeli settlers. More than 1,000 Palestinians in East Jerusalem are at risk of forced eviction, a crime under international law. Although Canada has expressed concerns about the evictions, concrete action is urgently needed to prevent this act of ethnic cleansing. Click here to demand the Canadian Government take action now! Canada Needs an Emergency Parliamentary Debate on Jerusalem

Earlier this week during Parliament’s Question Period, the NDP’s Jagmeet Singh raised the issue of Israel’s expulsion of Palestinians from Jerusalem, and Israel’s harassment of Ramadan worshippers at the Al Aqsa Mosque. He then asked whether Canada would stop arms sales to Israel. Since the government ignored the essence of his question, and so far has refused to directly condemn Israel, the NDP must demand an emergency Parliamentary debate on Jerusalem, insisting on a reset of Canada’s policy on Israel-Palestine. Click here to urge NDP MPs to stand up for Jerusalem. Continue reading

Stand With Palestinians in Gaza

If you’re like us, you’ve been shocked and outraged to watch Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza in recent days, not to mention its violence against Ramadan worshippers and Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah last week. Canada must condemn Israel's savagery and call Israel to account for its deadly violence against Palestinian civilians. Israel's renewed violence comes only weeks after the international group Human Rights Watch (HRW) issued a report accusing Israel of the crimes against humanity of apartheid and persecution! Click here to join human rights organizations like Human Rights Watch, and tell Canadian political leaders, "Enough is enough!"  Canada must insist on an end to Israel's crimes and brutality!   Continue reading

Tell the CMHR: Include Palestinians, Acknowledge the Nakba

Opened in 2014, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) has steadfastly ignored human rights violations against Palestinians. Palestinian Canadian activists in Winnipeg have been trying for the last decade to get the CMHR to recognize the Nakba – the catastrophic dispossession of the Palestinians from their land – and tell the stories of the Nakba survivors, but they have been disregarded. Recent scandals have rocked the CMHR, leading to new management and a supposedly renewed commitment against racism. There is a new opportunity for us to remind the museum to live up to its ethical responsibility. Click here to tell the CMHR to include Palestinians and acknowledge the Nakba. Continue reading

Tell Minister Alghabra: Canada Must Cancel $36m Contract for Israeli Drone!

Canada’s Transportation Ministry recently approved a $36.16 million dollar contract for drone technology from Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons company. The money will purchase a “civilian” version of Elbit’s lethal military drone, the same one which was used to kill civilians during Israel’s assault on Gaza in 2014. Through this purchase, Canada directly supports the profits of a weapons company responsible for ongoing human rights violations against Palestinians. Click-here to tell Minister Alghabra to cancel the contract!

Canada must vote for a shared Jerusalem

Any day now, the UN General Assembly may be voting on an important resolution on Jerusalem. The resolution rejects Israel’s illegal attempt to annex all of Jerusalem, and condemns Israel’s attempts to prevent Palestinians from living or visiting the city. Canada’s vote on this resolution is more important than ever, as the US pressures countries to recognize Jerusalem as exclusively Israel’s capital.  Click here to tell Trudeau that Canada should vote FOR this resolution and SUPPORT a Jerusalem shared by ALL! Tell Canada to Stand Up for Palestinian Refugees!

Palestinian refugees are at a humanitarian crossroads, and the Trudeau government needs to take a stand. While the government restarted support for Palestinian refugees in 2016, it continues to vote AGAINST Palestinian refugees at the UN, and is always “hush hush” about its aid! What’s worse, the UN aid agency for refugees (UNRWA) announced last week that it is no longer able to pay its employees. It’s time for the Trudeau government to stand up and be counted: To vote for the two UN resolutions supporting UNRWA, To commit proudly to its support for UNRWA, and To announce new emergency funding for UNRWA Click here to tell Prime-Minister Trudeau and your MP to stand up for Palestinian Refugees!

Canada must repeat its UN vote for Palestinian self-determination

This time last year, Canada voted “Yes” on a UN resolution to support Palestinian self-determination. It is very important that we keep this “win,” and that Canada repeat this vote again this year. Join CJPME and the Coalition of Canadian Palestinian organizations in calling on Canada to vote in support of Palestinian self-determination, as well as more than a dozen other resolutions on Palestinian human rights.
